US Team Pickleball - Capital Cup (DC, MD, VA)

2023 CUP SUMMARY

Team Play

The Cup is a round robin format allowing for more competition. The winner is determined by most points won. Teams are 6-14 players (with a minimum of 3 women and 3 men). 6 players compete at the same time on 3 courts, as follows:

• 1 court of Women’s Doubles
• 1 court of Men’s Doubles
• 1 court of Mixed Doubles

Team lineups may change from round to round. Each team participating in The Cup must have one captain who the Cup Director can communicate with about the tournament. The team captain speaks for the team. While a team may have more than one captain (a co-captain for example), there shall be 1 person who is designated as team captain.

DIVISIONS

Teams are arranged according to level ranging from 3.0 to 5.0. The Cup Director may move teams if they are in the incorrect division. For areas with local leagues, the local league coordinator determines what team travels there for each division. For areas without a local league, it is expected that the team will place itself in the proper division. If more than one team from an area without a local league wishes to play in The Cup, the Cup Director may require them to play a playoff at the local level to determine the team that will represent the team in The Cup.

• The number of divisions will depend on the number and level of teams registering for the Cup.
• The Cup Director may move teams that are in the incorrect division. Divisions may be combined (eg. 4.5/5.0), but team awards will be by level. Cup Director decisions regarding team level are final. For teams qualifying from an established local league, a team member’s level will be the level at the time that the team played in the local league. In this case, the player’s subsequent increase in level is not considered.
• At least 80% of a team’s players must be the level of the division being registered and in no event will a player be more than .5 level different than the level of the division.

The Capital Cup will be played at the Montgomery County Tennisplex. 18010 Central Park Circle Boyds, MD 20841 https://www.montgomerytennisplex.com. 240-477-4430. All players attending the facility must comply with facility requirements.

Team League Play - State Championship

• Where: Montgomery County Tennisplex
• When: August 19-20, 2023. Meets begin at 8am.
• Cost to play: $55.00 per player to cover tournament expenses.
• Drop in Friday August 18, 2023 4-6 pm $5/pp
• Captains Meeting/Reception Friday August 18 4:00 pm
• Team Registration Dates: Opens 06/01/2023 *
• Team Makeup: A team will consist of 6-14 players at a division level
